Exchange rates are approximate reference values and may differ from the rate you get at a bank, exchange office or card provider. Do not use for financial or legal decisions.
About this tool
This free currency converter turns an amount in one currency into another using up-to-date exchange rates for 30 of the world's most-traded currencies, including the US dollar, euro, Japanese yen, British pound, Chinese yuan and more. Rates refresh automatically when the page loads, and a built-in fallback table keeps the converter working even offline. Swap currencies in one tap, pick a popular pair such as USD/JPY, and copy the result instantly.

How it works
Every conversion is calculated through a base currency. Exchange-rate providers publish how many units of each currency equal one US dollar; the US dollar is the world's main reserve and reference currency. To convert from currency A to currency B, the amount is first expressed in US dollars (the cross-rate), then multiplied by the dollar rate of currency B. Because most currencies float on the open market, these rates change continuously with supply, demand, interest rates and economic news. This tool fetches the latest published rates in your browser; if that request fails, it falls back to an approximate built-in table so you always get a sensible estimate.
Frequently asked questions
Are these exchange rates live?
Yes. The converter fetches the latest published rates from a free exchange-rate API when the page loads. If the request fails, it uses an approximate built-in table so the tool still works.
Why is my bank's rate different?
Banks, card networks and exchange offices add a margin or fee on top of the mid-market rate shown here. Our values are reference rates, useful for estimates but not the exact amount you will receive.
What is a base currency and a cross-rate?
A base currency is the reference all rates are quoted against — here, the US dollar. A cross-rate converts between two non-USD currencies by routing through the dollar, e.g. EUR to JPY via USD.
Which currencies are supported?
Thirty of the most-traded world currencies, including USD, EUR, JPY, GBP, CNY, KRW, INR, AUD, CAD, CHF and many emerging-market currencies.
