About this tool
This time card calculator adds up your daily and weekly work hours from the times you clock in and out, with breaks subtracted automatically. For each weekday, enter the clock-in time, clock-out time and unpaid break in minutes; the tool instantly shows the hours worked that day in both easy-to-read decimal hours (e.g. 7.5 hours) and hours:minutes (e.g. 7:30). You can choose how overtime is counted with three modes: overtime for anything over 40 hours in the week (common in the US), overtime for anything over 8 hours in a single day, or no overtime at all. Enter an hourly rate and the tool also estimates regular pay, overtime pay (at 1.5x) and gross pay for the week. All amounts are estimates - your actual pay is governed by your employer's policy and local labor law. Everything is calculated in your browser and your entries are stored only on this device.

Frequently asked questions
How is overtime calculated?
It depends on the overtime mode. With 'over 40h/week', any hours beyond 40 in the total week count as overtime (common under US federal rules). With 'over 8h/day', anything over 8 hours on each individual day is summed as overtime. With 'no overtime', every hour is counted as regular time. When you enter an hourly rate, overtime hours are paid at 1.5x the regular rate.
Does it handle overnight shifts that cross midnight?
Yes. When the clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time (for example, in at 22:00 and out at 06:00), the tool treats the shift as crossing into the next day and adds the hours correctly. Overnight shifts are marked with a moon icon. It handles a single span that crosses midnight per day; it does not chain multiple days, so enter each shift in one day's row.
How are breaks handled?
The minutes you enter in the break field are subtracted from that day's worked time. For example, in at 9:00 and out at 18:00 with a 60-minute break gives 8 hours of work. Enter only unpaid breaks; leave the field at 0 for paid breaks that should not be deducted.
What are 'decimal hours'?
Decimal hours express work time as a fraction of an hour. For example, 7 hours and 30 minutes is 7.5 hours, and 7 hours and 15 minutes is 7.25 hours. Payroll systems and spreadsheets usually use decimal hours, so this tool shows both decimal hours (7.5h) and hours:minutes (7:30).
Are my entries saved?
Yes. Your times, breaks, hourly rate and overtime mode are saved in your browser's local storage on this device only, so your week is restored the next time you open the tool. Nothing is sent to a server. Click Reset, or clear your browser's site data, to remove the saved information.
